RALPH G. STOUT
Ralph Stout, a native of Mountain City, TN, is considered one of the greatest basketball and football officials to ever put on a striped shirt. He worked everything from the NAIA tournament to the Sugar Bowl. Stout officiated at the high school and college levels for over 40 years, from 1946-1992. He was a football referee for the Southern Conference and Volunteer State Athletic Conference for over a decade each. He served as Commissioner and Supervisor of Tennessee High School Football Officials from 1990-2000, and was the football Rule Interpreter in 10 different states. His accolades and awards are many, including being inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame (1984), Northeast Hall of Fame (1989), Lincoln Memorial University Hall of Fame (1989), Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (1992), and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National High School Hall of Fame (2019). Stout also served in US Navy during WW II, and he served as Mayor of Mountain City for 19 years. |
