PHILLIP GARLAND
Phillip Garland graduated from Happy Valley High School in 2015 and became the first scholarship recipient from the National Football Foundation Mountain Empire Chapter. Garland played running back and outside linebacker. He was a 3-time 1st Team All-Conference; 3-time 1st Team All-County. During his sophomore, junior, and senior years, Garland was named Play of the Week, Warrior of the Week, East Tennessee Player of the Week; Northeast TN/Southwest VA Player of the Week numerus times as recognized by Elizabethton Star, Johnson City Press, WJHL, Carter County Bank. Garland achieved 3,427 career rushing yards, 38 touchdowns, and 252 career points. He broke the school’s single game rushing record with 332 yards in 2014. Garland was on the honors roll and earned the top GPA and was valedictorian for his graduating class. He has been actively involved in the United Way “Week of Caring” and many other community service activities. He later attended the University of Tennessee to study Engineering. |
