MICHAEL D. GONCE
Mike Gonce, a native of Kingsport, TN, has officiated many sports during his career, but football is his passion, with over 30 years experience, starting in 1988. He has worked over 75 State playoff games, including the TSSAA State Championships. He has served as the crew chief (referee) for over 20 years. Gonce is active in the Region 1 Football Officials Association, serving as Vice-President for 4 years (2013-2016) and President for 5 years (2017-2021). He is instrumental in developing innovative training programs with the use of presentations and game videos, as well as developing a robust website for the association. Gonce played an essential role in starting the Mountain Empire Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 2014. He was elected as President to lead the organization in its early days, and continues to serve as President in 2021. He was named outstanding leader in 2019 and recognized at the annual National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame Awards Banquet in New York City. The Mountain Empire Chapter has also been recognized as one of the best in the nation. Gonce also serves as Vice-President and Director of Youth Sports of the Indian Spring Optimist Club, and has served as Deacon and Youth Director at Indian Springs Christian Church, and served as Sullivan County Commissioner for 8 years. |
