JC Campbell
Coach JC Campbell graduated from Hampton High School in 1955 where he was the team's starting quarterback, and he would later go on to coach his alma mater. Campbell retired from coaching football at the end of the 2008 football season after 41 seasons as the head football coach at Hampton. During his coaching career, Campbell compiled a record of 275-166-1 (160-74 in Conference games); had 25 winning seasons; 22 playoff appearances; won 11 conference championships; and 1 bowl game (1971). His teams had 14 playoff wins, advanced to the state quarter-finals 6 times, and semi-finals 3 times. Campbell served 49 years in the Carter County School System and was the Athletic Director and Vice-Principal at Hampton for 20 years. Campbell received conference “Coach of the Year” honors 11 times. The football stadium at Hampton High School is named in his honor. Campbell was inducted into the Northeast Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame; TSSAA Hall of Fame (2011); Carter County Sports Hall of Fame (2012). Campbell won the National Football Foundation - Mountain Empire Coach's Award in 2019. |
