Hunter Jackson
Hunter Jackson graduated from Science Hill High School in 1943 where he lettered 3 years in basketball, football, and track. Jackson was a college football official for 53 years, and is the only man who has officiated in 4 different professional football leagues (AFL, NFL, WFL, and USFL). Jackson’s officiating career began as a TSSAA official in 1947 before moving to the Ohio Valley Conference (1954-1960) and to the Southern Conference (1960-1964). He founded the Southern Independent Collegiate Officials Association (now known as Conference USA) in 1976 where he served until 1991. Jackson was inductee into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (1994), TSSAA Hall of Fame (2000), and was recognized by the National Football Foundation in 2000 for his outstanding leadership is support of amateur football. He was a member of the National Football Foundation and was a major contributor in starting the Tri-Cities Chapter, and served as the Chapter President. Jackson served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Emory University, Notre Dame University, and received a BS degree from East Tennessee State University in 1947. |
